This is a family coordination to make Pomegranate Sauce! The pomegranates you see here are kind of very sour pomegranates, so juicy and covered by a very thin skin. People name these: Riant Pomegranates! In persian:انار خندان They are turgid due to high amount of juice and because of the high difference between day and night temperature in Yazd they naturally break like this. So, farmers don't take them to market. They squeeze them in the way you see in image to extract the juice manually so they bring the juice to boil to produce pomegranate sauce. Some delicious food are cooked by this sauce: pomegranate soup and Fesenjan! Here is one of the small villages of Yazd, names Ardan, about 120 kilometers far from Yazd.

It's good to see that food production is not totally automated everywhere in the world. It reminds me of the way grapes used to be smashed as a first "step" in wine production, by human feet. I like the kid watching and I hope he will do the same when he is grownup in a time when these things are still done by hand, excuse me, by feet. BTW Thanks for your comment on my pink toadstool, maybe you could look up what kind of toadstool it is????

@Illuci: I'm happy it was interesting for you! That little child is my daughter, Shadi! I cut her hair so she looks like boys! The man sitting to help others( at the left side) is my husband. to answer the last part of your comment: I try to find, dear Illuci!
This is a facinating insight to the making of the sauce, I agree with Illuci it's good to see this done in this way without the use of machinery. A wonderful image Soodabeh :)
